position paper

This is the first class we haved after two weeks of holidays. I am tempted by the smell of KFC's snack when Miss Amelia and Miss Elisha carried two boxes of food into our class today. however, we have to control ourself to pay attention to Mr.Vahid's presentation on ways to write good argumentative essay. From his sharing, i learned to present my points in the position paper in a more effective way.

Mr Vahid have taught us ways to recognize the elements in a good argumentative essay like the claim, data and warrant. i found it interesting as i seldom write in this way. My previous writing of argumentative essay is based on thesis statement and supporting details and sometimes i do not know what to write for the supporting details. This causes my points in the essay sounds not persuasive and firm enough.

At the end of class, everyone of us are given a box of KFC snack box!!!!Thanks Dr. Jaya a lot for loving us so much!:DDDhaha...i finish the whole box in the class!!!!haha

Akeelah and the bee

Yes. I like this movie. Akeelah is an eleven-year-old girl who manages to spell a lot of difficult words. Akeelah is portrayed as a girl with great determination. She was brought up in a broken family. Her father had passed away. She was risen up by her mother. Because of her talent in spelling difficult words, her headmaster, Mr.Welch encouraged her to take part in the Crenshaw Schoolwide Spelling Bee. She won the competition easily. I like the character of Dr.Joshua Larabee in this movie. I think he looks like Dr.Edwin.hehe…He tested Akeelah with some difficult words and found that she had the potential to participate the National Spelling Bee. At first, Akeelah refused to join this competition. The story goes on with Akeelah at last is participating the National Spelling Bee contest and won it! I like this movie because it shows how a girl who lack of confidence finally win over it and won the contest. The way Dr. Joshua Larabee used flashcards and rope skipping to help Akeelah to memorize the spelling of vocabularies can be considered as one of the method to be used in English classes.

The Ron Clark’s story

This is the second movie that we had watched for Dr.Jaya’s class last week. The storyline of the movie is based on a true story of an energetic and creative teacher who leaves his hometown to teach in a New York City Public school. The lead actor for this movie is Matthew Perry.
I am impressed by the patience of the teacher towards his rebellious students. He set up rules for his class. One of the rules that impressed me most is “we are one family”. He wanted to create a friendly and loving learning environment for the students. From the rule, I know that the teacher is trying to build trust of the students toward him. Although it seems impossible to make the whole class to obey the rules at first, however the patience and the passions showed by Mr. Clark had changed the students’ character amazingly. It really shows me how important for a teacher to be patient.
This movie helps me a lot in my future teaching. I like the idea used by the teacher which he asked all the students come in front one by one to light up the candles on a big cake. This shows that they are united, they are in one family.

Practical Practical Practical

Our practical will start next year in six months time from now. Lecturers are giving us advice in dealing with partners, students, colleagues and housemates. I feel nervous when I think of the difficulties that I might face in my practicum. However, I felt excited when I think of the students. Feel eager to educate them not only knowledge from books but life lessons as well..^^
Dr. Jaya asked us to list down eight names so that we can stick together in a house. Oon will be my partner while Priscilla and Sharon will be our housemate. We have find another four, I think..heeee:D. We decided to go to Gajah Perang. Firstly, it’s because Gajah Perang is a town area so the facilities there are better. Secondly, it’s easier for me to get delicious food especially the Nyonya’s food..hehe…
Anyway, I have to prepare myself to overcome all the challenges that I might face during practical. Gambatea to all my coursemates!

Mona Lisa’s smile

This is the first movie that we watched for this semester. I had watched this movie before with subtitles. The movie carries for two hours which is very long for me. The lead actress is Julia Robert who act as Katherine Watson, an art teacher.
Yes. I like the movie because it motivates me to be a better teacher. The movie is quite entertaining. I would rate it as “so so”. Yes. There are moral values in the movie. The devotion of the teacher touches me. She did not give up although she was humiliated in the first day of her lesson. She continued to find a better way to teach the students. Besides that, her effort in instilling the students to look art from their own perspectives had inspired me. I feel that students today like to expect teachers or books to spoon feed them with knowledge. They never try to acquire knowledge with their own effort and therefore, most of the thoughts or knowledge that they get are belongs to the experts or professional people in the society.
Apart from that, the teacher’s spirit of fighting with the mindset of traditional society which stereotype women as housewives touches me too. She encourages her students to strive hard in order to achieve their dreams. I think the determination and devotion of the teacher in this movie inspires me to become a better teacher in my future teaching.

Exhibition at University’s Hall

We were brought to our university’s hall today. It was the “Pameran Reka Cipta dan Inovasi” which was launched for three days (20-22th July). As we tramped hither and thither, the current went off suddenly and we continued wandering in the darkness for about 5 minutes. Hahak...
Dr.Jaya and his team had created software for teachers to create questions for their students. I like the software as it helped me to lighten my work as a teacher in the future. Hehe…I can create as many questions as I like for my students to practice their language…
Besides that, there are lots more creative inventions were exhibited in the hall. For instant, the tools used to open coconuts, the cow’s skin which can cure wounds and lots more. The exhibition really helps to increase my knowledge. I think this type of exhibition should be carried out more often in our university to increase knowledge and experience of our students.

DROWGAMES!!!

Our first tutorial was carried out at the resource center of our faculty which is the Faculty of Education. Our tutors for this course, Miss Alicia and Miss Amelia instructed us to go to the website (http://drowgames.com/) to play a game called Drowgames.
I still remembered that my first opponent is my coursemate, Cheah Mun Chung so as I am his first opponent. We are quite blurred when we first played the game. The answers are quite confusing. Anyway, I won the game! Yippie!!! Haha…Yes. I like drowgames!
I like it firstly because of the prizes!!!hahaha! Of course not only the prizes had attracted me or else Dr. Jaya and his friends will feel sad. Hahak..Apart from the grand prizes that make me love Drowgames, the challenging questions of the game attracted me too. When I first begin to play the game, it really make me ponder for a while to choose the correct answer.
Yes. I will recommend this game to my Form 1, Fom 2, and Form 4 students. I wouldn’t recommend it to Form 3 and Form 5 students because they will be having their PMR and SPM. I think Drowgames help students to build up their vocabularies and grammar usage.
