LeaN On ME

This is the fourth movie that we watch in our tutorial class. I love this movie most among all!!! It is so touching!! The school in the movie is facing the possibility of being taken over by the state as it has less-than-average basic skills test scores. Morgan Freeman acted as an arrogant and unorthodox principle who returns to the school after he left the school for twenty years. I love his character, Joe Clark so much. He is a devoted principal in managing the school administration board and the discipline of students! He is a real leader!!! He is so brave to fire all the students who sell drugs and have gangs. I feel glad that he is wise enough in handling the discipline problem in school while all the teachers are scared of the students. One teacher is beaten until bleeding when he tried to stop fighting between students.

Joe Clark is portrayed as a strict and tough principle. He strictly requests the teachers and students to obey his commands. He even punishes the teachers if they do not follow his orders. I think this is a good principle because if the teachers themselves cannot obey the rules and regulations, how are them going to request the students to listen to them? However, he shows true concerns to his students when they have problems. He counsels them patiently and helps them solve the problem.

For me, it is important for a teacher to be a role model for his students in order to educate them. This helps teachers to gain respect from students. Besides being the role model for students, teacher must show concern to their students always. Teacher must always be sensitive towards their students. They must try their best to find out the problem and help their students to solve the problem they face.

Eventually, Clark is successful but his unorthodox method leads to a clash with city official that threaten to undo all his efforts. He is arrested and the entire student body gathers at the Central Office of the Paterson Board of Education. The students want the authority to release Mr. Clark. Finally, Clark is released and the good news is the school achieves more-than-average basic skills tests scores.
